Cerakote vs DLC vs PVD

All three are tough. They just shine in different places. Here's the short version.

Cerakote

Ceramic-polymer coating, sprayed and oven-cured.

LookHuge range of colors, two-tones and patterns
StrengthsGood corrosion and chemical resistance, even coverage over the whole gun
Best forFull-gun custom looks, frames, rifles, shotguns and knives
PriceFrom $249 (complete handgun)

DLC

Diamond-like carbon: a very thin, very hard, low-friction carbon coating.

LookMostly black and dark gray
StrengthsExcellent wear resistance and a slick surface, thin enough for close-fitting parts
Best forWear parts: slides, barrels, bolt carriers and triggers
PriceQuoted per job

PVD

Physical vapor deposition: a thin metallic coating applied in a vacuum chamber.

LookCustom metallic finishes: gold, bronze, rainbow and titanium tones
StrengthsVery hard and wear resistant, harder than many traditional finishes like bluing or paint-type coatings
Best forBarrels, slides, small parts and accents meant to stand out
PriceQuoted per job
